GCH Manager Issues a statement via friendsorenemies.com [Jul. 2nd, 2008|02:58 pm]
Gym Class Heroes' manager, Bob McLynn, has issued the following statement regarding last night's incident at the St.Louis stop of the Vans Warped Tour:
Posted by blondesaresoout 9 mins ago
“Somebody in the crowd was taunting Travis with racial slurs. Travis invited him onstage with the intent of calling him out in front of the crowd, with absolutely no intention of a physical altercation. When he tried to help him onstage, the guy hit Travis in the knee area (which has been in a brace because of a recent sprain), forcing Travis to defend himself. At this point, a scuffle broke out.

This whole incident is unfortunate. Travis McCoy and Gym Class Heroes are anything but violent. Their message is about racial unity and having a good time. It’s amazing that in 2008 there are still people out there that would say such ignorant things.

Travis is deeply upset that this happened, and has expressed his apologies to the band's fans that were at the show, Kevin Lyman, and the Vans Warped Tour. GCH is putting this behind them and looks forward to seeing everyone on the rest of the tour.”

Sign Petition To Encourage Senator McCain To Debate MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD! [Feb. 18th, 2008|01:24 pm]
[mood | thoughtful]

you can sign the petition @ http://www.mustdebate.com/

To: Sen. John McCain
A Republican debate was scheduled to take place on February 28th, 2008. It was to be sponsored by the Ohio Republican Party. This debate has since been mysteriously cancelled. A rush to judgment has ensued following the Super Tuesday elections on February 5th in which more than 21 states held primaries or caucuses. Sen. John McCain gained an enormous advantage and squeezed out Gov. Mitt Romney. Gov. Mike Huckabee was left standing as the Party’s only other viable candidate.

We believe:
1) Sen. McCain should earn the respect of the Republican base by debating Mike Huckabee in one or more formal Lincoln-Douglas style debates.
2) that failure to publicly engage Gov. Huckabee in debate before March 4th should be considered a gross attempt to grab the nomination without properly demonstrating a viable candidacy.

Thus, we hereby petition Sen. McCain to accept an invitation to debate Mike Huckabee with all due haste and prove or disprove his worthiness.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Nonjudgementally and Cognitive Therapy

See but don't evaluate. Take a nonjudgemental stance. Just the facts. Focus on the "what" not the "good" or "bad" the "terrible" or "wonderful" the "should"
or "should not"

Unglue your opinions from the facts, from the "who, what, when, and where."

Accept each moment, each event as a blanket spread out the lawn accepts both the rain and the sun, each leaf that falls upon it.

Acknowledge the helpful, the wholesome, but don't judge it.
Acknowledge the harmful, the unwholesome, but don't judge it.

When you find yourself judging, don't judge your judging.

Hurricane Rita Intensifies [Sep. 21st, 2005|07:04 pm]
[mood | uncomfortable]

Hurricane Rita intesifies even more, heads for TexasEvacuations ordered as storm inches closer

(9/21/05 - GALVESTON, TX) - As many as 1 million people were ordered to clear out along the Gulf Coast, and hospital and nursing home patients were evacuated Wednesday as Hurricane Rita turned into a Category-5, 165-mph monster that could slam Texas by the weekend and inflict more misery on New Orleans.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Forecasters said Rita could be the most intense hurricane on record ever to hit Texas, and easily one of the most powerful ever to plow into the U.S. mainland. Category 5 is the highest on the scale, and only three Category 5 hurricanes are known to have hit the U.S. mainland -- most recently, Andrew, which smashed South Florida in 1992.

All of Galveston, low-lying sections of Houston and Corpus Christi, and a mostly emptied-out New Orleans were under mandatory evacuation orders, one day after Rita sideswiped the Florida Keys as a far weaker storm and caused minor damage.

Having seen what 145-mph Hurricane Katrina did three weeks ago, many people were taking no chances as Rita swirled across the Gulf of Mexico.

"After this killer in New Orleans, Katrina, I just cannot fathom staying," 59-year-old Ldyyan Jean Jocque said before sunrise as she waited for an evacuation bus outside the Galveston Community Center. She had packed her Bible, some music and clothes into plastic bags and loaded her dog into a pet carrier.

"I really think it is going to be bad. That's really why I'm running. All these years I've stayed here, but I've got to go this time," said 65-year-old Barbara Anders. "I don't have but one life, and it is time for me to go."

The federal government was eager to show it, too, had learned its lesson after being criticized for its sluggish response to Katrina. It rushed hundreds of truckloads of water, ice and ready-made meals to the Gulf Coast and put rescue and medical teams on standby.

"You can't play around with this storm," Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said on ABC's "Good Morning America." He added: "The lesson is that when the storm hits, the best place to be is to be out of the path of the storm."

By early afternoon, Rita was centered more than 700 miles southeast of Corpus Christi, drawing strength from the warm waters of the gulf. Forecasters predicted it would come ashore Saturday along the central Texas coast between Galveston and Corpus Christi. But even a slight rightward turn could prove devastating to New Orleans.

Dr. Phil's Tip Of The Day [Sep. 15th, 2005|05:29 pm]
[mood | hopeful]

I want to talk to you today about your role as an American citizen.

Often times when we are part of a much bigger whole we sometimes feel like an individual voice can’t make a difference. But I’m a strong believer that we each create our own experience, we each paddle our own canoe through this river of life and we have to hold ourselves accountable.

The silent majority cannot be left to watch life go by and create whatever is served up on a day to day basis. You can make a difference, your voice can make a difference. Individually and collectively you can be heard. The biggest danger we face is if we leave it for someone else to do.

If there is something that you feel strongly about, something that you feel passionately about – take action, use your voice and make a difference.
